Do clay sculpting and pottery painting

About 18 months ago my sister got me and Hilde a clay sculpting and painting kit for Christmas. Since then it’s just been sitting in a cupboard, waiting to be used… UNTIL NOW!

Behold the fruits of our labour:

Hilde’s figure (on the left) remains unpainted, as she had to return to the Netherlands whilst the clay was still drying, but I’ve now painted and glazed my figure.

In case you can’t tell, or have limited knowledge of Japanese folklore, my figurine is a Kappa. It’s the cute and modern style version – think more “Kappa No Kaikata” and less “Death Kappa”. I should be safe from having my shirikodama stolen, lol.

I’m not the most artistic person when it comes to painting and sculpting but it was really fun to just sit, relax and spend some time crafting something. Looking forward to seeing how Hilde’s figure turns out, once it’s fully painted. ^_^

Fun Amy Fact: I used to live a few hundred meters away from the edge of Ushiku Swamp, known for its Kappa folklore. Check out this link to get a feel for the place.
